2018-19 Week 15: 6 Teams Still Alive in Regional Semifinals

Two boys’ and four girls’ squads passed quarterfinals tests in the CIF state regional playoffs last night.

Most significant was the 66-58 Division 1 win by the 5 seed La Jolla Country Day girls on the road at No. 4 Granada Hills.

Cathedral, the top seed in Girls D-I, sustained a stunning loss, 49-44, to No. 8 Riverside King, better known as the alma mater of NBA star and former San Diego State Aztec Kawhi Leonard.

The La Jolla Country Day Torreys thus will have boys and girls teams in the mix as play resumes in the semifinals Saturday.  The 8 seed Torrey males will visit No. 4 Anaheim Fairmont Prep.

An all-San Diego Section final in D-III is possible, with 2 survivors in the semifinals.  D-III No. 2 San Marcos meets visiting 6 Pacific Palisades. No. 5 Serra has the  most daunting challenge with a 255-mile trip and a matchup with the No. 1 McFarland Cougars.

D-V top seed Madison will play host to No. 5 Anaheim.
