San Diego Section teams were 0-5 in semifinals of the CIF Southern California Regional playoffs and their seasons came to an abrupt end, following that of the combined more than 200 other Section boys and girls squads which competed this season.
Francis Parker girls (23-8), third seeded in Division I, led 2 seed Temecula Rancho Christian (26-8) by as many as 12 points in the second half before the Eagles took a 77-75 lead in the final two minutes and won at home, 85-79.
Ninth-grader Addison Archer, a 5-foot 10-inch guard, scored 44 points and converted14 of 19 free throw attempts for the hosts. Brieana Brown led the Lancers with 29 points and 12 rebounds.
“It’s been exciting; it’s been fun; every emotion you can feel, I’ve probably felt so far,” Parker ‘s first-year coach Courtney Clements told Don Norcross of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Rancho Christian is guided by Marlon Wells, who played at San Diego High and coached The Bishop’s to two San Diego Section titles.
Vista (20-12), the other girls semifinalist, was eliminated by Montebello Schurr, 43-35.
Torrey Pines as ushered out of the Boys’ Division I by host Pacific Palisades, 81-67. Carlsbad, 15th seeded in D-II, was ahead, 33-30, at halftime but Bakersfield Christian opened a 16-1 flurry in the third quarter to win, 50-33, and Poway fell at Lake Balboa Birmingham, 82-69.
